Everyone has a story. Birthplace, favorite food, astrological symbol, and their parents' influential record collection; it's all the same. Soltero's Tim Howard has none of these. The real story here begins in Boston, Massachusetts in the year 2000, where Howard began playing music under the name Soltero. Y2K did not wipe out civilization as he knew it, and Howard had some songs in the works. With a then little-known outfit called The Mobius Band providing instrumental tracks and emotional support, Science Will Figure You Out became Soltero's first musical statement. It delivered something more than the physical form of a recorded album; it possessed an unidentifiable magnetism, a thread which would remain present and grow with each and every Soltero record. All Music Guide said it best: "Tim Howard makes it known his own DNA carries a healthy string of cynicism. But what separates him from the average jaded songwriter is strong imagery, original metaphors, and a combination of humor and poignancy."
Over the next several years Soltero rollercoastered through various unorthodox incarnations, from a guitar and trumpet duo to a much louder, jangly four-piece, coming to a rock 'n' roll crescendo with 2005's Hell Train. Howard took to the roads of America with each act, and often played stripped-down solo sets as well. In 2005, after five years and four albums documenting the cruel ironies of life, love and loss, Howard relocated to Philadelphia. In between cafe and contractor jobs, he began to record You're No Dream - a return to the personal, home-recorded sound of 2003's Tongues You Have Tied, and to a mood both more desperate and more romantic. Love is declared, sold down the river, and stolen from the hand of God throughout the twelve songs of You're No Dream. Upon completion of the album, Howard voyaged to the South, working with Mexican immigrants, learning Spanish along the way. He is now back in Philadelphia making music, teaching ESL and doing "work" for an author.
